Interested In Weight Lifting Straps? Uncover How To Use Them Appropriately

What are weightlifting straps employed for?
Use weight lifting straps to preserve going when your development starts to stall; they strengthen your grip during pulling movements like deadlifts, pull-ups, and rows. You’ll be capable to add reps or weight to your workout routines, or lift a lot more frequently. Strive them sometime; the big difference is like night and day.

Employing them increases your efficient power. Unless of course you are injured, your grip is possibly the weak hyperlink for the duration of compound pulling movements. When you take your grip out of the equation, the progress you make appears to go on and on with out stalling.
Grip energy takes a large hit in the course of heavy deadlifts. With the exception of the lower again, the forearms take the longest out of any of the muscle groups to recover from a max-energy exercise. Grip fatigue limits your other pulling movements, even after several days’ rest. This is doubly true for older lifters who need to have additional recovery time between exercises.
Until you use weight lifting straps, you don’t comprehend how essential your grip strength is. A strong, reliable grip nets you a lot more reps in the course of your pull-up sets and lets you add substantially much more weight to the deadlift bar. Except you’re injured, your grip is the weak hyperlink in your pulling movements.
In brief, you get three benefits from weightlifting straps:
– More frequent exercises thanks to the grip assistance.
– Heavier weight in the course of deadlifts, rows, and weighted drag-ups.
– Far more reps throughout units of un-weighted drag-ups.
The downside of using weightlifting straps
Obviously, if you never train your grip, it will stay weak. Don’t use weightlifting straps each time you work out. They can aid you attain your goals if you use them strategically, but don’t use them as a crutch or they’ll hamper your development.
Weightlifting straps should only be utilized for specific things:
–Recovery from damage. When your hands, fingers, or wrists are injured, weight lifting straps mean the variation in between working out and vegetating on the couch.
– Absolute max effort lifts. Your grip will in no way manage as a lot weight as your again and legs. Devoid of weight lifting straps, you have to use an alternate grip and risk pulling some thing out of whack, or a hook grip and risk wrecking your thumbs.
– High-rep units of drag-ups. Lifting straps get you an additional rep or two. You’d be shocked.
– Holding a heavy dumbbell during calf-raises.
– Hefty shrugs. Your traps can handle a lot much more weight than your grip. To grow your traps with out affecting the rest of your pulling exercise, use straps.
Weightlifting straps: assessment of various kinds and brands
No weight lifting strap evaluate can be complete without having mentioning the fundamental, time-tested model. It is absolutely nothing much more than a flat length of major cotton, roughly a foot in size, with a loop in one end. For most purposes, this inexpensive style is perfectly fine.
You can find padded lifting straps which put a layer of neoprene foam in between the cloth and your skin. If comfort is your factor, go for it; the additional cost is negligible. Valeo padded lifting straps are heavily-advertised and nicely-regarded among trainees, but the truth is that such a easy item varies extremely little involving manufacturers. Schiek straps seem virtually identical in design.
Leather weight lifting straps look good, but the additional expense is tough to justify. There is no benefit to having leather instead of cotton lifting straps.
Some producers supply fancy padded wristbands or gloves with straps or hooks constructed in. These might be beneficial if you are suffering a chronic injuries, but I have in no way observed a weight lifter use them on a regular basis. Attempt to prevent wrist and hand damage and you need to have no use for exercise hooks, power hooks, or any other new variation on a proven theme.

Harbinger can make a full range of weight lifting devices. I have a pair of Harbinger weight lifting straps and they’ve served me well for years. But as I mentioned previously, it’s tough to go incorrect with such a basic merchandise. Your very best bet is to comparison shop, evaluate the price differences, and go for whichever is least costly. There is really small variation in between makes and models, until you want fancy features like

Harbinger Lifting Straps – Big Grip No Slip

I recently purchased a set of the Harbinger 21700 Big Grip No-Slip Pro Lifting Straps to help get a few more reps when my grip begins to wear out. Grip strength is important to me and I still continue to try and develop it. But I realized that with lifting straps, I could continue my lifting past the point where normally my grip would have been shot.

I chose the Harbinger 21700 Big Grip No-Slip Pro Lifting Straps because they looked comfortable and sturdy. The wrist cuff is padded with neoprene and the cuff is secured by a velcro buckling system. I wanted a strap that was going to be comfortable as well as secure. I’ve always been leery of straps that can over tighten as you lift. The Harbinger Big Grip No Slip straps have proven to be very comfortable when I’ve used them over the last few weeks.

The strap themselves are very long and are faced with an additional set of rubber strips to provide added friction. When I lift, the straps do not budge and feel very secure. Overall, I’ve been very happy with them.

I’m currently using them for bent over rows (both dumbbell and barbell), dead lifts, lat pull downs and barbell shrugs. I’m sure as I progress, I will find additional exercises to use the straps on. In order to continue my grip strength, I am only using the straps during my later sets of each exercise.
