How do I get in shape for ice hockey. I am too out of shape to continue following the initial or 2nd shift.?

Question by D: How do I get in shape for ice hockey. I am too out of shape to continue following the initial or 2nd shift.?
I am familiar with training for hockey after already being in a state of fitness that is already a great base for enhancing on into the elite levels of fitness for a hockey player. Now I am older, haven’t played for five years or a lot more and I get incredibly winded after the first shift. By the 2nd shift…I am already extremely winded plus the lactic acid has built up in my legs producing it difficult to skate. I have been jogging for 2 months now and I can jog three miles no dilemma…but nonetheless I get too winded to play at my regular skill level. I would say my fitness level is the worst on the ice. Yesterday I started practicing “sprints” to see if that helps…but I am just shooting in the dark. I have read on the web about how to train but it is either geared towards individuals already in shape…or it is just conflicting information.

Also, in my two months of training I went from 181 pounds to 165 pounds. I am 5’9 or 5’10. I am 29 years old.

Thanks….genuinely would appreciate any support at all.

Very best answer:
